Start the day like the locals do. The pasar pagi (morning market) in Padang Matsirat — also spelled Padang Mat Sirat — is where the kampung comes for breakfast. Order roti canai straight off the hot griddle, crispy outside and soft inside, with kuah gulai ikan — fish curry with a whole fish — on the side. Then wander the stalls for nasi lemak, kuih, fresh fruit and local produce. Mulakan hari macam orang tempatan. Pasar pagi Padang Matsirat (Padang Mat Sirat) tempat orang kampung datang sarapan. Langkawi's night markets move around the island on different days, and on Sunday evenings it's Padang Matsirat's turn. Rows of stalls set up near the Beras Terbakar site off Jalan Lapangan Terbang, roughly from 6pm to 10pm.
